An Underwater Museum of Art: MUSA

MUSA or Museo Subacuático de Arte is literally a museum under the water. Does it get any cooler than that?

This museum is truly unique! It was started in 2009 in the waters around our beloved Isla Mujeres as well as Punta Nizuc and Cancu, Mexico. The former President of the Cancun Nautical Association and the Director of the National Marine Park started the museum, hiring a sculptor from England named Jason deCaires Taylor to begin working on sculptures, which would be placed beneath the waters off of Isla Mujeres. Now, there are more than 500 permanent sculptures beneath the waters. It is one of the biggest underwater art attractions in the entire world.

You can see these sculptures in one of several ways. First, if diving just isn’t your thing, consider seeing the artwork with the help of a glass bottom boat. This is the perfect way to see the artwork for people of all ages.

If you’re up for it, however, you can also enjoy the museum first-hand by diving to see it or snorkeling. Learn more on the MUSA website!

Scuba Diving at Its Best

Always wanted to scuba dive but never got the chance? Well, now’s your chance! Scuba diving in the beautiful waters surrounding Isla Mujeres will be an adventure unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. There are numerous locations on the island and nearby our resort that offer PADI certification and dive training with certified instructors. Try Carey Dive Center, which has courses and certifications for scuba diving as well as snorkeling. Delfin Diving is another great option!
